The premiere for the first Norwegian goth club was held on the 15 of February,
1995. Despite very nervous organizers, the happening was very successful. About
150 persons got their souls in through the doors that night, and experienced
something outside the mainstream. The first sign that this was something extraordinaere
was the massive amount of smoke, secondly the harsh drum-machine pumping
through the PA.
The people? What about the people? Dressed as the cast of
"Dracula" or "Interview with the Vampire", they where dancing (or floating) across
the dance-floor. Dyed hair, capes, gloves, jewelry and black dresses was the main
theme, but also Fields of the Nephilim look-a-likes. It was exciting to see that
the early eighties was not forgotten. Stefan Rosell, the D.J. (or rather G.J.)
had picked out the very best from his record collection. A good mixture of old
and new stuff.
There where also some theatrical entertainment. A theater-group, Black factory, kicked of
a very experimental show, called "Dementia", that seemed to interest the crowd.
Again the feeling of mixing new and classic.
The evening ended sadly at 0300, and many drunk goths where trying to find
they're way home (me included). The impression I got was that they where very
satisfied, and looked forward to the next event.
Due to huge response this time, there will be arranged a new Gotham Nights in
the middle of March, Part II. I would recommend everyone to come, especially
those who where so unfortunate to miss it this time.
