Part IV
The Metamorphosis
10 / 5 - 95 @ So What!
Live:
Catherines Cathedral (S) - CANCELLED
Flyer
This was the first event arranged on our new location, "SO WHAT" (Grensen 9, Oslo). For
that grand opening we had invited the brilliant Swedish goth band
Catherines Cathedral over to do a gig, but unfortunately they could not
make it. Allegedly the bass player broke his arm. We have rescheduled them for the autumn. Look
for updates.
As mentioned, we have now moved to a new cave. I personally think that "So What" is a
better location for Gotham Nights then Tutankhamon
was. It's bigger, and darker, and we can promise you more exciting settings. "So What" is a
fearly new club in Oslo. It opened a couple of months ago, and has become the premier
independent club. They have concentrated on independent music, and have a lot of concerts,
i.e. a perfect place for Gotham Nights.
This time I have asked The Criver Waker to do a review, so
check out his view of the night:
Thank you there Eblis, and now over to...
I shall admit it; My bowels refused to stay calm, my boots were aching and my makeup
slightly disproportionate. My first descend into the Goth scene of Oslo was a series of
thrills that eventually led to become one of the coolest experiences in a long time!
Entering the cave set for the display of gothic extravaganza at *So What* nightclub in Oslo
was one excited net.goth trying to keep his brooding countenance undisturbed! ;) Greeted by
the howling and piping tunes of an organ commanded by invisible hands I found myself in a
smoke filled room only dimly lit by candles nicely driven into white gleaming skulls, (a bit
small, a child perhaps....? ;) )
*Sigh*, what a beautiful place!!!
Not knowing a soul, (neither living nor dead), could have been a handicap anywhere but
here. But there were lots of cool goths to look at, and all (or most), dressed in black
capes, silk, hats, jewelry and black, (loads of black), makeup. The crowd grew and finally
my hitherto unseen and unknown host appeared. (Greetings to thou Darkamber!) Having been
further introduced to several goths, (amongst these I will not fail to credit Eblis, who
manages this page), I could not help but feel at home, indeed the Oslo Goth scene is the
place to be! (Tam-tam-tara-tam-dum-dum!)
At the time the crowd had reached a sufficient density. The cellar at *So What* is not
big and it's more like a hall than a square room, so too keep the Gothic air without having
to suffocate from the smoke there shouldn't be *too* many people there.
At one time the ever-present satanists crawled out from somewhere and joined the party.
Goths, hear ye; they where seen smiling and obviously *enjoying* the party at *several*
occasions during the night! This must have been the worst night they ever had.
Also we saw the appearance of some transvestite-s appropriately dressed for the occasion.
Hell, who said you've got to be "straight" to be Goth!
Basically the atmosphere and the spirit was as it should be; Gothic. ;)
I've heard so much about the Gothic dances and expected to see weird scenes on the
dancefloor but instead I joined the fun and regrettably I don't remember much of the
details. What I could say though was that there could have been more people on the
dance-floor than there was. Hey Goths, Shake your booty!
The GJ played cool music, although I was a bit too busy keeping up with all that was
happening around me to be able to tell you exactly what and when and how. Anyway, there
didn't seem to be too many dull moments for anyone and I think the general opinion was
positive. I think people left a little early though, and very suddenly! At some point around
twelve or one o'clock the crowd shrunk and the smoke withdrew for no obvious reason at all.
Perhaps even Goths work during weekdays...?:-o
As the crowd cleared a few of us stayed on and held the fort...uhm, grave...so as not to
rot completely away. Amongst those who still lurked in the shadows where some girls who
talked about starting an all-female, (feline), Goth band! Way to go, perhaps we are seeing
the rise of an even broader gothic sound from Norway. (I haste to mention The Morendoes
about which you can read more in Darkambers writing about the last Goth Night,
The Resurrection.)
Due to my extreme lack of short time memory I run the risk of having forgotten important
details and persons, but I think the overall description fits what really happened during
this Gotham Night fairly well.
I greet all the other goths I met; the German Goth, (Kirsten), the Lady with the cool cross
makeup and packet of Deaths, (Kjersti), the Mad Dog, (Jostein), the band girls, (Elizabeth
and Kathrine) and Coeur, who helped me get rid of the overly mystic, (and intoxicated),
pretentious goth dude!
All in all I have find only one word in Websters dictionary appropriate to describe my
impression of the Gotham Nights "Part IV, The Metamorphosis" and that is: Excellent!
ha!
